Restoring older phone backup to new phone

Please correct me if I'm wrong...

I've had blackberrys forever.  About 50% of the time i got the latest phone becasue i damaged the previous one.  I often did whole phone backups, but could never restore the backup to the new phone.  I rarely got the chance to do the phone "switch/transfer" method.  There's got to be a way to do this switch from the backup?  In general all my email and contacts were from a BES server - so not a problem.  -But media, apps, settings all had to be set or downloaded manually again.

Please tell me I've been missing something that exists.

Re: Restoring older phone backup to new phone

This would depend on what kind of phone the old phone was and what the new one is.

If going from a BB10 device to another BB10 device you can simply restore the backup file to the new device as long as the backup was made with an equal or earlier OS version. If the old phone has a newer OS than the new phone then you can't restore a backup.

What does that mean? I have no idea how to help when all you tell me is "didn't work for me."

With that description the problem could be anything from the computer wouldn't boot up to I can't find my BlackBerry.
