Sync - "Unknown Error" Message

I have a new BB Curve 8310. When attempting to Sync, immediately after "Determining root system for main" , I get an "Unknown Error" message. It was recommended that I delete Desktop Software, create a new user on my PC, and reinstall Software, but this didn't work. Am using Windows XP, SP3, Outlook. Thanks.

Re: Sync - "Unknown Error" Message

Hi and welcome to the forums!

I would do the following:

Use this link to uninstall the current DM

http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB02206&sliceId=SAL_Pub...

Download DM 4.5  without Media manager. MM is very unstable:

https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=A8BAA56554F96369AB93E4F3BB068C22

Download these USB drivers for 4.5

BlackBerry USB and Modem Drivers ENG (DM4.5 B13)

  • File size: 12.33545 MB
  • Date posted: 24-June-07
  • Download Software

Here is the manual:

http://na.blackberry.com/eng/deliverables/3392/Desktop_enterprise_45_final_492431_11.pdf

Cold boot the PC. Turn of all virus checkers and firewalls.

Install the DM and configure for Outlook 2003.

On the BB:

Pull the battery while the device is ON, replace after a minute, Let the device reboot 1-3 min,

Start the DM and plug the BB into the USB.cable

Sync.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Hi,

Don't think it's number 4 but check the others:

Re: Sync - "Unknown Error" Message

Sorry, still getting the "Unknown Error" message. I followed all the steps you gave me.There was one thing I found. See my note below in red

Cause 2

The Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) profile is not properly configured in the computer registry.Start > Run.

  1. In the Open field, type regedit.
  2. Click OK.
  3. Expand the HKEY_CURRENT_USER folder.
  4. Expand the Software folder.
  5. Expand the BlackBerry folder. There is no Blackberry folder In the Software folder. There is a 'Research in Motion' folder but within that folder there is no MAPIProfile registry key.
  6. In the list of registry keys, double-click the MAPIProfile key.
  7. Verify that the data value for the MAPIProfile key displays the name of your MAPI profile

I appreciate all your help!

Re: Sync - "Unknown Error" Message

Hi,

Just to confirm, when you setup the options in desktop, you did have the Option of Microsoft Outlook to

choose from, correct?

Thanks
