What is the problem with Roxio Media Manager??

I purchased my first Blackberry 8310 Curve on Black Friday. For some reason the Blackberry Desktop Manager installs and works absolutely fine. However when I open the media manager from Roxio the screen freezes and it doesn't even show my device. I have uninstalled cleanly and re-installed over a dozen times and can't get it to work. We also went and bought an updated graphics and sound card and have installed them. The Roxio media manager STILL freezes up and we have to shut it down.

I do a lot of Paintshop Pro and have those programs as well as other graphics software. I'm wondering if it is a software conflict? I don't see one. Or if the Roxio is a POS as someone posted before.

I have spent hours and hours reading everything I can online about it and can not find an answer anywhere. The main reason that I want the Media Manager is that I want to make my own ringtones....that's it! The rest I can do without it. Does the BB media manager have the capability to make ringtones?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Michelle

Re: What is the problem with Roxio Media Manager??

Roxio Media Manager is not a reliable nor stable software.

To transfer files between blackberry and your desktop computer it is not necessary to install Media Manager.

Unlock device of device keyboard.

Connect it via USB cable to your desktop computer.

A new removable drive will appear in "My computer" drives list.

Transfer files to and from this removable drive.

Please note that files, copied to the memory card (that removable drive) are not accessible from device until you not disconnect your device from computer. When device is connected via USB to your computer - it is not allowed to access media files on memory card from the device.

Then my question is how do I make ringtones from my music? That is all I really want to do really. I can already drag and drop photos. I just want to make ringtones for the phone?

Thanks,

Michelle

Re: What is the problem with Roxio Media Manager??

Copy your mp3 files to the ringtones folder of your removable drive.

For example if this removable drive appears on drive E then the full path will be:

E:\Blackberry\Ringtones

That's it.

When you copied ringtone files to the proper folder - disconnect your device and open address book.

Now you can assign custom ringtones to your contacts.

on Windows, you can use any software to cut your mp3 for the part you want.
you can use mp3cutter or Audacity.

Hi, I am new to BB and not great  with computers.  How would I unlock the BB so that it will be recognized by my computer so I can drag and drop photo or music files?  Should I give up on Roxio media manager?

Thanks

Re: What is the problem with Roxio Media Manager??

Ususally to access device micro-sd card the following steps should be done:

  1. Go to Options-Media Card and turn "Mass storage mode support" to ON
  2. Unlock the keyboard of your blackberry (as a step #2 the keyboard is already unlocked, but note this requirement if you will connect your device to computer later)
  3. Connect it via USB-cable to your computer
  4. Wait several seconds, a new drive will appear in "My computer". This drive represents your blackberry micro-sd card. Copy/move pictures/videos/music to the relevant folders and enjoy. Keep in mind that you have to disconnect your device from computer to make them accessible for your blackberry device.
In case you have questions - feel free to ask.

Re: What is the problem with Roxio Media Manager??

The blackberry keyboard can be set into one of two states: Unlocked and Locked.

To lock your keyboard - select icon "Keyboard Lock"

When your keyboard is locked there is a small window displayed:

"Keyboard is locked, Press * [ to unlock"

To unlock your keyboard when it is locked - press * and [ button

[ button - means that the green dial button on the left side from "Menu" button
