Opinions are all over the place, but the surveys I've read (one is on N4BB) so far seem to favor this move. Last I looked, positive was almost 60%, negative less than 20%, with the rest being undecided. Many articles are written as well...here's one:
Personally (all of this is IMHO), I think it's a smart move. Die hard IOS and Droid users aren't going to be swayed by anything, and punishing them by limiting their access to something doesn't help anything. IM should always be a platform-independent thing so as to best enable the fullest possible end user experience. If BBM is an IM platform, then it needs to be able to enable users to keep in touch with people regardless of the platform on which they all operate. In some markets, BBs are just not an affordable solution...but that does not negate the need for the users to be able to communicate with each other. I think BBM can kill many other cross-platform IM clients...and this is the way to do that.
