Hi there,
Do you mean a data plan in general or a data plan for Blackberry specifically? I don't think it makes a difference?
I won't know until tomorrow whether I have a data plan officially but like I said I'm pretty sure and the phone is browsing, it allowed me to download and install the gmail/sync app and my calendar is working. I'm pretty certain the data plan is in effect.

it does sound like you have data plan, (unless you have wifi connected)
When you speak with your provider, ask about service books with them, I have seen some not go through with host routing table. Also they can verify your account through blackberry admin tool.
check out these links:
set up / validate email
Associating an email account using the BlackBerry Internet Service web site
send service books

Hi gvbdad,
Thank you for your email.
Although I'm not having a lot of luck I guess I'm learning along the way.
Neither option worked as my smartphone cannot be registered and because I cannot register it I cannot create an email account using the computer or BB Australia website.
It asks for my PIN and IMEI number but when I type them in it tells me I need to register first. When I regiser using the instructions ie. Setup - Advanced Options - Host Routing Table - Register, I get a message saying Registration sent however that is it and I cannot go further.
I figure my only option for now is to speak to my wireless provider being Telstra.
Once again I will keep you posted on progress.

If you are getting the Registration Sent message when using the HRT > Register function, you're device is connected tothe BIS.
On the homescreen, do you see "edge" or "EDGE"?
At Manage Connections > Service Status, what do you have listed for:
BlackBerry Internet Service
Connection ??
Mobile Network ??

Hi JSanders,
Thank you for your reply.
On the homescreen I do have Edge on the top right corner.
In Manage Connections I have;
Blackberry Connection Service - Not Connected
Connection - Not Connected
Mobile Network - Edge
Mobile Network Provider - Telstra
Kind regards,
Jason

Let's try that yet again.
EDGE or edge. ALL CAPS or lowercase? That's the question -- not "Edge".
Let's be very very clear about that ^^ . I don't think you do have the proper data plan as the answer you provided as "not connected" to the BlackBerry Internet Service, should be connected if you have the correct data plan... or it is not provisioned to your device.
I suspect you need to call your provider and confirm that you do indeed have THE BlackBerry Data Plan provisioned to your account.

Hi JSanders,
Apologies for that. It is 'edge' all lower case.

There you go. You don't have THE BlackBerry Data Plan. Call your carrier.
Good luck.

BINGO
Thanks for that. On a final note. I'm assuming the BB Data Plan is different to the standard data plan? What if I had an Iphone for example that is similar to Smartphone technology. Does that use the standard data plan or once again is there a specific iPhone data plan?
I will confirm with you once I have the matter resolved.
