I spend a lot of time deleting old e-mail from my device because it's copied there when I open an old e-mail in Outlook.
O2 tell me my BB is set up correctly. My IT Support guy tells me Outlook looks okay. But something's causing this to happen. Any ideas please? - I'm going round in circles and going potty trying to resolve this!

I cannot tell for sure, but if you are on BES, your BES admins must resolve this. If they need assistance, there is a BES-specific section of this site where they can seek help from other BES admins:
On the other hand, if your email is integrated via BIS, then this KB governs:
Note carefully that this governs reconciliation between the BB and the email SERVER only...reconciliation between your server and your Outlook client is separate, and is governed by whatever Microsoft allows for.
