IMAP vs POP

For work, I have a 8310 on BES. Since I got used to BB, I acquired a 8100 for my private use. I set it up with my gmail account on BIS and so far everything is fine.

Since Gmail is now providing IMAP, I was wondering whether I would get advantages in having IMAP set up on my 8100. Will it get more similar to a BES since with IMAP, you are working against a server. Is it faster?

Thanks,

Bruno

Re: IMAP vs POP

IMAP implementation on BIS is similar to POP operation - up to 15 minute polled delivery to your BB. Gmail, Yahoo, and GoDaddy provides instant/pushed email delivery.

Re: IMAP vs POP

A big advantage of IMAP is that if you read or respond to a message on your Blackberry, it will also mark it read or responded to on the mail server.

Re: IMAP vs POP

pop also gives ability to leave a copy of messages on the server

Re: IMAP vs POP

I tried IMAP but it took ten minutes or so before message appeared on my BB. Set to POP, I have Gmail on the handheld a split second before it shows in the computer inbox.

Can I fix this? Would like to use IMAP if it can work as fast.
