I also tried using my sim card in 2 different phones and another blackberry and there was no problems there.

1. Your SIM card is not blocked, it would be the actual BlackBerry PIN or IMEI. You need to call and ask them that question.

2. Does this SIM card have on it the BlackBerry Data Plan required for BlackBerry devices?

Re: Lost or Stolen BlackBerry -- What to do?

1. "Them" as in your mobile provider. They would be the ones who might have placed it on a Stolen list.

Re: Lost or Stolen BlackBerry -- What to do?

How about blocking BBM Pins? Ive called my provider and they said that was something I would have to find out from Blackberry.

Please read the initial post above: "Some service providers will also block or suspend the IMEI / PIN of the device also, so that it can no longer be used on the BlackBerry network, but not all will do this. Not all carriers will do this, only calling and asking will answer the question."

RIM/BlackBerry does not block PINs, your mobile provider may or may not, according to their own policy. If Movistar wants to speak with BlackBerry, they will escalate your call to BlackBerry and not just tell you to call them.

Re: Lost or Stolen BlackBerry -- What to do?

You can place a security lock on the device remotely via Protect.

Re: Lost or Stolen BlackBerry -- What to do?

I had the sim card blocked by the cellphone carrier before performing a device wipe on my mom's stolen BlackBerry.

Does the wipe still take place even if a new simcard is inserted or do I have to have the old sim unblocked (which can take up to 48 hours) and then hope that they are going to use the old sim, which I doubt as the phone was stolen 4 days ago already.

Re: Lost or Stolen BlackBerry -- What to do?

Once the SIM card is changed, Protect won't be able to connect to the device.

Re: Lost or Stolen BlackBerry -- What to do?

Okay, thanks.

Just wondering what the point is then, the moment a phone is stolen in South Africa, the sim is the first thing to go, thus it is actually only beneficial if you lose your phone inside your home?
