If you will read the initial post in this thread, you will see that you must have Protect installed on the device to remotely wipe the device.

Re: Lost or Stolen BlackBerry -- What to do?

You cannot recover data from the media card, no.

You can use Protect on the new device to restore any back up which was made using the old device, as long as you login on your new device using the very same exact BlackBerryID.

What model was the stolen device?

[ Edited ]

If you do absolutely nothing, and someone picks up your stolen BlackBerry, and there is no security password, they can use your device as it, and your BBM account.

However

1) have the SIM card disabled, that disables the SIM card

2) Use Protect to disable or lock the phone

3) Call your mobile provider and report it stolen, they can blacklist the IMEI disabling the device

4) login on a PC to your BBID you can change your BBID password and that will disable the BBM on that device, and AppWorld account. www.bbid.com

Re: Lost or Stolen BlackBerry -- What to do?

Hi Sanders,

Thanks for the detailed post. I have a question: if someone manages to find your phone and inserts a new sim card, would my previous data still be accessible to him/her. Does BB ask for an ID when a new SIM is inserted and if that ID is different, then does it still allow access to previous data? Doesnt it require to be formatted to be used?

Re: Lost or Stolen BlackBerry -- What to do?

If you had a security password enabled on the device, ten wrong entries of the password would enable a personal data wipe on the device.

Inserting a different SIM card does not initiate a password entry.

Re: Lost or Stolen BlackBerry -- What to do?

Blackberry should do something similiar to apple where the device cannot be restored orconnect to a computer if the command is initiated from blackberry protect.
