Re: OS upgrade on machine without carrier

There is no link to any OS 6 for the 9700, because no carrier yet has released OS 6 for the 9700.

And by the way, although your device is not 'branded', it does have a Vendor ID. Look at the Help Screen (type E A C E on the home sceen) and what is the Vendor ID listed?

So, Vendor ID 604 is a branded  device to:

  • Brightpoint Germany
  • 20:20 Germany
  • Sunrise
  • Brightstar AZLAN DE

There are really very very few unbranded BlackBerry devices in the world, and most of those might be pre-production devices which often don't make it in the hands of consumers.

To repeat, there is currently NO device software OS version6 for the 9700, none has been released. Device operating system releases are "released" by specific carriers once they have certified and trained their support techs, but still, you are able to load to any carrier's same model by following the instructions below.

When it is released, you install ANY carrier's OS 6 release to your device by following the directions below, which have been posted in this forum hundreds of times:

First, download the operating system file you choose to use for the 9700 device.

Do a backup of your device first, using Desktop Manager > Backup. Close Desktop Manager upon completion.

1. Download the OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

Re: OS upgrade on machine without carrier

Right, although the faceplate is unbranded, the device actually is not unbranded.

Good luck.
