Thanks for the info.  So can they read all of my SMS text messages or just see that I sent/received them?  I'm guessing the former.  And how can I find out (aside from asking them, obviously) if they are accessing my texts?  I think I know the answer, but am hoping I'm wrong.

I think that the answer you are thinking about is the correct one. Or, to be more clear, I don't know of any way, from the device side, to know what they are and are not doing via BES.
Occam's Razor nearly always applies when troubleshooting technology issues!
