Mine too got killed.
I am as mad a s a rattlesnake ! At a very inoppertune moment, it insisted that some mail update be done.
Now the phone is buggered.
Thank you for these tips..... they are for a pc though - how to do it on a mac ....??
Can anyone help.
How does this happen ? Do they not test stuff before sending it out ?
UPDATE : A few hours later, the phone is working again. I had to get a PC and re-install the OS from scratch.
Drat and double drat !

I Have a Mac and just yesterday this problem happened to me. After 4 or so hours of trying i was able to reinstall my OS by using the BlackBerry Desktop Software. I just plugged in the phone while it was frozen on the loading screen and the BDS was able to recognize the problem and reinstall it for me.
I am still playing around with the phone to see what else I can learn
I hope RIM can patch this soon.....

I have a Gmail account and a was able to find away around this.
I went to the address below on my BB. It must be done from you BB browser
i was then able to follow the steps afterward to set up my email acount and my emails have been working fine since. However I was still unable get the update for the message application to work.
Hope this helps a little bit.

I applied the email update last night. After restart, my bb is now a list of applications that are installed.
I've tried restoring from the desktop but no success, it would say restore is a success but nothing changes.
I'm using a MAC and this is very irresponsible of RIM to allow an update that will destroy my phone. SIGH. Maybe I should have gotten an Iphone instead...
