Restore a language

I used to have a Blackberry Bold 9700 and resently got a 9900. But with both, when i update, it deletes my other languages and leaves only english. I need french on my phone. I just updated my 9900 last night and as before with the 9700, it erased my french language option. Please help! I need it back fast.

Thanks

Re: Restore a language

Hello ,

Download & install the handheld software (BlackBerry operating system) from here: http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp

Download the newest version with multilanguage listed.

Install the device software on your computer

Open BlackBerry Desktop Software 6.1 and select Applications and then select the french language and install.

Re: Restore a language

Thanks Adam8,

but I probably should have mentionned that I have a mac. I tried downloading that software twice and it doesn't work. Unless i'm doing something wrong, I don't believe it works on a mac.

Are there any other solutions?

Re: Restore a language

In BlackBerry Desktop Software for Mac:

  1. Open BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
  2. Connect the BlackBerry smartphone.
  3. Select Applications.
  4. From the Install/Remove Application screen select the language you wish to install.
  5. Click Start. The installation will begin.

Once the BlackBerry Device Software is installed, on the BlackBerry smartphone, complete the following:

  1. Go to Options.
  2. Under Input Language, select the language that was installed.
  3. Save your changes.
  4. Compose an email message to test the input language.

Do you see the language under "Install/Remove Application"

Re: Restore a language

Adam8,

I did that, but French is not on that list. In fact, there aren't any languages in that list except support for east asian characters.

Re: Restore a language

You could try to do the following:

  • Eject the device from the Mac
  • Quit Desktop Software for Mac
  • Remove the BlackBerryDesktop folder from ~/Library/Application Support/ and drag it to the Trash
  • Empty the Trash
  • Launch Desktop Software for Mac
  • Connect the BlackBerry smartphone

Does the computer have an internet connection?
