Software Update crash

Hi all,

Recently i have tried to do a software update on my phone. But when it comes to the backup, it gets stuck on Overall: 12% and Social Feeds: 0%.

I have tried removing the batteries but it still gets stuck at the same area! Please answer quick. I need it for school stuff too.

Thanks

Re: Software Update crash

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

If you are doing this update OTA, then I recommend you STOP immediately. The wireless software update attempts to take an on-device backup of all of your data, which it then restores from after the successful update completes. But, if anything goes wrong, that backup is lost forever...and so far, you've been lucky.

I recommend that you install and use the Desktop Software to perform a manual backup, then do the update.

Good luck!

Re: Software Update crash

How do you stop the update once already started?

It can be very tricky and dangerous. If stopped while in the backup stage, it should be fine. But, if stopped during the actual update, it can render the BB useless (since the BB would have an incomplete OS on board), requiring even more challenging actions to recover it (which is normaly do-able, but the on-device backup is lost forever). I've never done an on-device update (since I always recommend against them), so I don't know if there are any keys to press (e.g., does the ESC/Back key do anything?). Otherwise, pulling the battery would of course stop it.
