Re: Upgradation Of Software

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

You need to subscribe, from your mobile service provider, to a data plan that includes the BB-proprietary services (e.g., BIS, "The BlackBerry Data Plan", etc.). OS 5.0 is only available to subscribers to an adequate data plan, and that data plan is issued to you from your mobile service provider.

Good luck!

Re: Upgradation Of Software

True, what sdgardne advises you.

There is one other workaround, to upgrade when you don't have an active BlackBerry Data plan on your account.

Manually upgrade using the directions below.

See the link below for the download, and follow these simple installation instructions.

First locate your carrier and the OS file you wish to use.
http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp

Do a backup of your device first, using Desktop Manager > Backup. Close Desktop Manager upon completion.

1. Download the OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.

2. On your PC, turn off and UNPLUG all internet, DSL cables or connections, including any WiFi source -- make certain your PC is not connected to the internet in any manner.
3. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
4. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.
