You're going to need to provide some detail of what you're doing.

If you're backing up, normally they are saved in your MyDocuments folder by default (but you might have changed that default). The file ends with an "ipd" file type.

Now, then you say you want to "transfer my BBM contacts". Transfer to what?

To my new blackberry, last time I did it there was something that said "BBM" and I clicked that and it transferred them, but I can't find it this time, I can't back it up on my memory card I have too much on it, so I need to use my desktop

The BBM contacts take up VERY little space on your Media Card, and doing it that way is the best way to ensure you don't lose them. I'd delete something off your Media Card and back up your contacts that way.

Otherwise, connect to the Desktop Manager > Device > Backup > SELECT only the BBMessenger contats and back that up. Then, on the new device with it connected, you will restore that single backup to your new device (Desktop Software > Device > Restore > Select... etc.).

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

All user data from the Desktop Software backup process is stored, to the PC, in a proprietary (designed only for use as the source of a Desktop Software restore) IPD or BBB file (depends on the platform and Desktop Software version). See this KB:

  • KB03974 BlackBerry smartphone database list

The Desktop Software backup/restore process functions on all databases in that list. But, sometimes, the BBM contacts just don't restore properly...hence, the separate backup process (discussed above) for BBM contacts is often prudent to also use.

Good luck!
