One last problem; battery has drained from the update but everytime I charge it the update continues!? I cant do anything whilst it has a dead battery

Set it on a proper wall charger (not PC USB) for 2 hours...then continue with the recommended remedies.
Occam's Razor nearly always applies when troubleshooting technology issues!
