BBM7 and BES 5.0.4, cannot activate Handheld properly

[ Edited ]

Since BBM6 and 7 (A guess because it fits to the time I installed BBM6) on a 9700 with OS5 I am unable to activate the 9700.

When I activate the 9700, synchronization  fails for BBM contacts and BBM history. Activation still finishes, but, some items which normally would also synchronize like the address book are skipped without notification.

This happened with BES 5.0.4 Enterprise mr2 and after I today installed 5.0.4mr3.

In addition the Blackberry Sync Server dies at random intervals during normal use. Sometimes 10 times a day, sometimes not. If I reload the user, synchronization starts, but never will finish.

In the logs I see:

I am able to do a sucessful activation If I delete the wireless backup and all user-data. But then BBM contacts and groups are lost. I already did this about 8 weeks ago, and hoped the problem is resolved because the  wireless backup maybe was corrupted because of its age (7 years). But as I found out today, the problem comes up again.

I searched for "Responded INVALID_SYNC_STATE" using google and the Blackberry knowledge base, but only found things related to the address book.

Is BBM7 on an OS5 device really compatible with BES 5.0.4 ?

Re: BBM7 and BES 5.0.4, cannot activate Handheld properly

i dont have any OS 5 devices on my BES anymore, everyone moved to OS 6 and 7

can you try upgrading to OS 6? I know there will be a memory issue as OS 6 takes up more room but it can rule out your assumption

Thanks for the suggestion Knotty, but I would rather get a Q10 then running OS6 on my 9700. But I have a spare 9700. It a lenghty operation, but  I might try with this one.
