BES can't connect To SQL database

Hi all,

I am running BES 4.1 with SQL Server2005 on Windows2003 server and Exchange2003.

This has been working well for 1 year 1/2 but since last reboot connection to the database is no longer working.

The only modification that was made as  on the server is that I have installed a new self signed certificate for Outllok Web Access.

Blackberry Manager is returning the message :"Database Login Failed using trusted credentials"

BBdispacther  service won't start

Sql server Management Studio can't connect either saying that "A connection was succesfully established with the server but an error occured during the pro-login handshake (provider :smileyfrustrated:hared memory Provider error: 0  "' sqlserver service is running

Using odbc I have " SSLsecurity error "

Does anyone experienced such problem ?

Help is welcome !

Thank's

Re: BES can't connect To SQL database

Can you post some data from the BES log ALRT / DISP files?

So you have BES on a server that is running Windows Server 2003 and has Exchange 2003 and SQL 2005 on the same server?

Look's like ist is an SQL SERVER problem:

No way to connect to the database (I tried to update sqlserver butwithout results)

Moving the database to another computer solved the problem .

What I did is:

Install sqlserver on a new computer (Vmware VM)

create an empty database BESMgmt

Then stop sql server

copy the old databases files(no backup available) to the new computer , start  sqlserver

Using the sql manager studio expres allowed me to open the database (with complaining messages related to access rights....)

Then using Blackberry config manager I changed the database location.

Then I had to fix the dispatcher error 5608 (sql error messages)

And now everything is up and running again !!!

Re: BES can't connect To SQL database

create an empty database BESMgmt

^^^ How did you do that?  Did you use the createdb.exe tool?

Re: BES can't connect To SQL database

No Using the SQL manager studio (although had to rename the ldf file from the real database )

Once connected to the copied database I have been able to backup it .(Without a working connection I was not able to do anything)

I had to find a quick fix since my boss was spending more and more time in my office asking when the thing was going to work again !! :+)

Now I will have sometime to understand why the sql connection is not working .

Do you think I should have done it another way ?

You did not follow the correct procedure.

Check out: KB03112 - How to move the BlackBerry Configuration Database to a new Microsoft SQL Server or instanc...

Specifically Task 2 Step 4.  You cannot create a BESMgmt database properly by doing it through SQL Enterprise Manager.  It must either be done through createdb.exe or through the BES installer.

Re: BES can't connect To SQL database

I had this procedure but my problem was:

Task 1 : unable to connect to the database I was unable to back it up although I knew it was clean.

Task 2: The file BESMgmt does not exist on my system.

I had to try things ...

I did not mention that after open the copied database I back it up using SQL server management studio and restored it .
