Intermittent mail delivery problems with BES 5.0.3 for selected users in patches.

Hi,

Suddenly since last 2 weeks we've experienced intermittent issues with mail delivery to the handhelds. There is a small group of people who will not receive mail. Others will work fine. Normally the users who are affected are on BB agent 1 and BB agent 3. I don't know whether there is any link between the two. There are total 4 BB messaging agents and approx 250 users. Server specifications are more than the recommended specs.

I can see in the MGAT logs that the mail is being retrieved but there is no entry in the logs that say it is delivered.

Rebooting the server seems the only way to resolve the issue. For sometime and couple of days there is no complaint, but suddenly the issue comes back again. Remember, only with few group of users. I compared the permissions on Exchange and AD, there is no difference.

In most cases affected users are not able to lookup and cant receive mail. But are able to send mails. Very Strange.

It doesn't seem to be consistent and after a reboot it could be a different set of users having the problem. Its also worth noting that it doesn't affect an entire server. ie one user may have the problem on one server while another user on the same server may be working fine.

I also see below BB Agent log message: Failed to do progressive image conversion: RES_UnsupportedImageType (1)

Please help me resolve this issue before it goes out of hand.

can be ignored

have you looked through your MAGT and MASt logs

default location :\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerryEnterprise Server\Logs

Also look in event veiwer to seef if any errors or warnings pertain to your issue

Please post back the log info minus personal info

to isolate an affected user on a static messaging agent , then look for the MAGT log for that agent (while trying to send/receive messages). The format you'll be looking for is:

BESName_MAGT_##_yyyymmdd_####.txt

Where the first pair of digits are the Agent ID you set.

Re: Intermittent mail delivery problems with BES 5.0.3 for selected users in patches.

Hi,

I need your help badly. Facing with the same issue as mentioned earlier. As advised, I have assigned a static agent to the affected user but still problem continues. Please find below logs for the affected user when the emails were not working on his device. Cant really find a specific error in the logs. Also, the problem is sometimes solved after restarting the server but somtimes it does not. Really strange.

Appreciate your prompt support in this matter.

[40188] (03/02 10:46:50.473):{0x2404} {MUHIDM@XYZ.com} Conflict resolution set to DESKTOP WINS\

That line looks like user is using desktop manager to sync device or maybe they installed it with BIS/personal mode.

have them reinstall Desktop manage with BES/work mode

Re: Intermittent mail delivery problems with BES 5.0.3 for selected users in patches.

Still facing the same problem. The same issue exists even after I have moved the user to new test server BES 5.0.4 MR 2 with fresh activation. The new server has only 2 users. The other is working fine with no issues. Today morning only I noticed that there were pending mails piled up for the affected user. I restarted the server and it were cleared.

Appreciate your help to solve this problem.
