Re: Service Pack 4 Installation

Hi,

It's not a complicated procedure.

Pre-reqs:

1) A Service Pack updates the Schema of your database so BACKUP the config database before doing anything!

2) Check that you are using the same service account to upgrade with that you used to install the BES

Install:

The below is a guide to doing this on a High Availability environment. In essence there is no downtime required. However on the side of caution, I make a point of stopping all services in the case of encountering any SQL deadlocks but you are free to decide:

  1. Stop all BlackBerry Administration Service services on all nodes.
  2. Upgrade all the BlackBerry Administration Service nodes (important this is done first)
  3. Start the BlackBerry Administration Service services.
  4. Stop all BlackBerry services on the Standby server.
  5. Upgrade the Standby BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
  6. After the upgrade, start the BlackBerry services on the Standby server.
  7. Failover to the Standby BlackBerry Enterprise Server instance.
  8. Upgrade the Primary BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
  9. After the upgrade, start the BlackBerry services on the Primary BlackBerry server.
  10. Failback to the Primary BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
  11. Consider using the downtime to install the MR at the same time.

Roll-back in case of major failure (highly unlikely if you followed the above steps to the letter) :

1) Restore SQL database to it's former state

2) Uninstall BES software from all BES

3) Reinstall BES and point to restored database

Re: Service Pack 4 Installation

No need, the 5.0.4 installer will automatically remove the monitoring service!
