Unable to access BlackBerry Console

I am having a problem with the Blackberry server, there was a power outage here and the server shut down improperly.
When I booted the machine and tried logging on I was unable to with the local account, when I log on using the Domain admin account and try open the BlackBerry Manager it says unable to open the database. I reset the local admin accounts password back to the original password and when logging on and opening the BlackBerry Manager it asks for exchange details, if I use the domain admins account it fails to find the exchange server. If I tell it to work offline it tells me is cannot open the database…

What amazes me though is all the blackberries are working fine.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Hi Speed_Freak,

 

Is the BlackBerry Manager installed on the same machine as the BlackBerry Enterprise Server? Have you looked at the debug log for the BlackBerry Manager? The default location of the debug logs is:

 

C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\Logs

 

The BlackBerry Manager log will be the one with '_MNGR_' in the filename. It's likely some sort of permissions issue or an inabilty to contact a server that we need to, to validate the credentials. The debug log for the BlackBerry Manager may provide us with some useful information, such as an error code.

What version of BES are you using? How's about the mail platform you're using?

Ok ... so if you read the error it indicates a problem accessing the BESAdmin accounts mailbox ...

 

 "MailboxManager::smileyfrustrated:ubsystemInitialize - g_pSession->OpenMsgStore (0x8004011d)"

 

... since you're not having a problem with mail routing I'm assuming the BlackBerryServer MAPI profile is working fine and the BlackBerryManager profile is having a problem.

 

Give these a review:

 

KB10285 - How to re-create the BlackBerry Enterprise Server MAPI profile

KB00658 - Relationship between BlackBerry Enterprise Server and MAPI

 

Remove anything related to BlackBerryManager and then re-create that MAPI profile. Don't touch BlackBerryServer.

Thanks for the post Andy

I recently took over the site and I unfortunately do not have the details as to which MAPI account was initially in use.

Is there a way to find out which account was in use before the Console went belly up?

By default the MAPI profile used with the BlackBerry Manager is BlackBerryManager.  Remove the entries for it from the registry and then open up the BlackBerry Manager console and you'll be prompted for a MAPI profile.  Enter in the Exchange Server name and BlackBerry Admin mailbox name, continue on and you should be all set.

Where could I find the original user that was used?
If I try use the domain administrators account it fails, there is a besadmin user, but I'm unsure that is the one that was originally used.

Would the account be a local or domain account?

From the BES ...

 

Start > Run > services.msc <enter>

 

Go to the BlackBerry Dispatcher service and check the user that it as running as.  That is the user you want to enter.

Yay, it is the besadmin user name.

Would changing the users password affect how it access's the database?
