BESX 5.0.3 to 5.0.4 and Exchange 2007 to 2010 Migration Questions

[ Edited ]

My current environment is as follows:

All on same box:

Windows Server 2003 x64Exhange Server 2007

BESX 5.0.3.41 (Bundle 12)

SQL 2005 Express

Ok here's what I want to go to:

New box:

Windows Server 2008 R2, Exchange Server 2010 SP3 (Server does not exist yet)

New VM:

Windows Server 2008 R2, BESX 5.0.4 db on 08 server below (Server does not exist yet)

New VM:

Windows Server 2008 R2, SQL 2008 SP3 (Installed and Ready)

Ok so first things first. There is only one BB user, me. I think I should first get BESX transitioned over to it's own dedicated box before moving on to Exchange 2010. So here is what I think on how it should happen. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

1. Build new VM for BESX

2. Download new version of BESX 5.0.4

3. Install BESX 5.0.4 (Not sure about SRP id? Please explain what to do)

4. In the install point to new SQL 2008 SP3 Database so it will be a new DB

5. Use Transporter tool (can I?) Confused whether you can use it with BESX to BESX (I SURE HOPE I CAN)

6. Transition services over to new BESX (Don't know if this should be done before or after migrating the user over)

Please help me Knottyrope. Thanks.

Please use plain text.

6. Transition services over to new BESX (Don't know if this should be done before or after migrating the user over) Once transported just remove old BES>

Re: BESX 5.0.3 to 5.0.4 and Exchange 2007 to 2010 Migration Questions

So I can run the two BESX servers simultaneously? They both can be communicating with exchange at the same time?

This is assuming two unique SRP ID's, and only one BB users which will only be on one or the other not both.

Re: BESX 5.0.3 to 5.0.4 and Exchange 2007 to 2010 Migration Questions

Ok. Steps 1-4 completed successfully. 5.0.4 is up and running on its own VM pointed to SQL server database on SQL server.

Where do I get this transporter tool? Is there a guide available on its use?
