Re: High Availability

according to MS website

http://download.microsoft.com/download/6/F/8/6F84A9FE-1E5C-44CC-87BB-C236BFCBA4DF/SQLServer2008_Lice...

you do not need to buy two licenses and Enterprise license is not needed for database mirroring

Re: High Availability

Yes, works great BES failover is a matter of seconds (5-7 secs for SRP to connect out of new internet circuit at host site 500 miles away, you'll need to adjust your SQL mirrored database settings to make sure the failover of the configuration database happens automaticly.

Thanks for all your replies guyz....I am still working out on this issue,.....the idea of moving physically the location of the BES server is the easiest way out but transporting the server will be another issue....Firstly, I feel it will be good idea to move local MSDE databases to a central SQL database..but again a question arises..whether it is possible to centralize the Blackberry configuration databases of 4 BES servers at one remote sql location If your latency From BES to SQL is low you can do this....if yes, then how will one BES recognize it users when connected simultaneouslyThe BES will access GAL for that info...What complication will arise in this scenario You need a good backup plan...advise needed guyz....

Re: High Availability - Domino messging server

Can anyone tell me how BES HA knows it should switch to a differnt messaging server. For DR puposes if you have a mirrored SQL environment the BES will fail to the mirrored config db. How will it fail over to the DR Domino server? Is this manual or automatic?

Re: High Availability

The soluion to the Domino HA issue is to cluster the servers and use the cluster name to point to the messaging servers. The BES should go to the available server. Another issue was the use of Server_Restricte ini parameter. If it is used to prevent users from access the server in the DR location how would it deal with an actual senario. The solution seems to be adding the bes as an admin in the security tab which gives it admin access - the only user allowed to access the servers using  Server_Restricte.

In my environment we have 5 BES + 5 HA standby (one for each) running core services and 2 remote servers in a MDS connection service pool, one primary and one standby.  When I define the supported dispatcher instances for each MDS Connection service instance, all 10 dispatcher instances are available to choose from.  Do I need to add all 10, or when a BES core service is failed over to it's HA standby, does it "take over" the dispatcher service instance and at the same time will automatically point to the correct MDS instance.  If it does not take over, there is still the 6 dispatcher per MDS instance limit correct?  In which case I'll have to add a 3rd maybe 4th MDS Connection server to get true HA for this scenario.

Re: High Availability

Hello,

I make a lot of searches but I didn't found the answer.

What are the installation steps for an HA installation of BES v5.0 with Exchange 2003 :
- 2 BES Enterprise Server
- 2 BES Router
- SQL Server with mirroring

For example:

  • First BES Entreprise Server (Active)
  • Second BES Router (Active)
  • ...

Thanks a lot for your answers :smileyhappy:
