BBs erase and disable themselves regularly without notice

Dear Forums,

For some reason, almost weekly, some of our users' devices spontaneously decide to erase and disable themselves.

Our helpdesk is then required to help these poor souls re-activate their handhelds.

I should note that nobody has issued the Erase Data and Disable Handheld command.

Also, is it possible to look somewhere, say in the logfiles of the BES to see why these devices would have spontaneously combusted? Can you point me in the right direction?

Sidenote: I'm a bit frustrated with BES5 - I felt really comfortable with BES4's great GUI. This web-based stuff is slow and not as useful. I think in our next deployment, we're going back to BES4.

Erase when Battery Low IT Policy

Do you mean:

Secure Wipe If Low Battery

Specify whether the BlackBerry device securely wipes all of its user data if the BlackBerry device battery becomes critically low.
Use this IT policy rule to require a BlackBerry device with insufficient battery power to perform a secure wipe of user data.

The answer is yes.

That said, my understanding is that this policy wipes resident memory. It doesn't bring a handheld back to factory defaults requiring the user to contact the helpdesk to re-activate, does it?

If it does, what would be the purpose of such a policy?

Yes it wipes it clean and you have to reactivate it.

The way I see it

a lost phone gets wiped if you set it to yes.

Well then, policy turned off - hopefully this ceases to be an issue.
