Disable Redirection Not Working

Recently upgraded to BES 5.0 and wanted to test out functionality. We tested disable redirection on my own BB to make sure it works. However redirection is set to No in the console, but Im still getting emails on my BB. We even went in and cleared all the checked boxes for redirection folders. Also set the filter to no forward emails to the device. But Im still getting emails. This is kind of alarming as we frequently have to disable redirection but now since moving to 5.0 it doesnt seem to be working. Any thoughts?

Re: Disable Redirection Not Working

Hi Kyle,

Is there a "Received using:" field on the messages you're getting?  If so what does it say?  If it's an email address that means the email is coming in through the BlackBerry Internet Service. Let us know if it's something else.  If the field isn't there then you only have one messaging service enabled on the device and you'll probably need to review the Messaging Agent logs (marked as MAGT in the file name) to see if the mail is being processed for your device, by the BES you're changing the settings on.

Re: Disable Redirection Not Working

Thanks for the quick response.

It says: "Recieved Using: Desktop (Secure)". Which is standard for all our BB users.

Re: Disable Redirection Not Working

That should mean that it was recieved from the BES then.  If you go to Options -> Advanced Options -> Service Book -> Desktop [CMIME] does the UID field match the SRP ID that is in use on the BES that you are changing the settings on?  If it doesn't then your handheld is getting the messages from a different BES.  If it matches then the logs will likely show the BES functioning as if you haven't changed any settings.  If you open Messages -> Options -> Email Filters can you see the filters you set up?.  If you log out of BAS and log back in, does the account still show redirection as disabled?

Re: Disable Redirection Not Working

UID on Device & SRP on BES match.

No filters show up the device. However the setting: "If no Filters apply, send email to handheld:" Is set to NO, even though on the BES it has been set to YES.

Yes to logging out of BAS and logging back in.

Re: Disable Redirection Not Working

When the user starts up (after a BES reboot or a user reload) you should see this in the logs (MAGT) when redirection is enabled:

    [40259] (09/22 03:38:21.562):{0x1218} {user@domain.com} *****Redirection on*****

When redirection gets turned off these lines should get printed:

    [40253] (09/22 12:03:20.624):{0x1218} {user@domain.com} Redirection has been disabled
    [40256] (09/22 12:03:20.624):{0x1218} {user@domain.com} *****Redirection is off*****

When redirection gets turned back on:

    [40259] (09/22 12:09:20.548):{0x1218} {user@domain.com} *****Redirection on*****

When a message is recieved with redirection off you should see this:

    [40423] (09/22 12:07:12.365):{0x774} {user@domain.com} Queuing new mail through notification (external). EntryId=184
    [40724] (09/22 12:07:12.365):{0x1218} {user@domain.com} Get record key for this MAPI object, EntryId=184
    [40435] (09/22 12:07:12.365):{0x1218} {user@domain.com} Queuing new mail through notification. EntryId=184. Msgs Pending 0
    [30085] (09/22 12:07:12.412):{0x1218} {user@domain.com} New mail has arrived, EntryId=184
    [30086] (09/22 12:07:12.412):{0x1218} {user@domain.com} Redirection off: Message filtered, EntryId=184

With redirection on but the message is filtered:

    [40423] (09/22 12:09:53.343):{0x774} {user@domain.com} Queuing new mail through notification (external). EntryId=188

    [30085] (09/22 12:09:53.359):{0x1218} {user@domain.com} New mail has arrived, EntryId=188
[40512] (09/22 12:09:53.359):{0x1218} {user@domain.com} Message filtered according to filter FilterName
    [30092] (09/22 12:09:53.359):{0x1218} {user@domain.com} Message filtered, EntryId=188

With redirection on and the message not filtered:

    [40000] (09/22 12:21:30.895):{0x1780} [BIPP] Send data, Tag=3698

When you modify a filter you should see something like this in the logs a minute or two later:

    [40833] (09/22 12:13:20.460):{0x1218} {user@domain.com} Email filters request generated for the PIM Connector. ( 0 Add, 1 Update, 0 Delete - 1 total )
    [30315] (09/22 12:13:20.476):{0x1218} {user@domain.com} Sending data to PIM Connector, size=609

Do you see anything like this occuring in your logs when you make changes or send test messages?  Also do you have the Database Notification System (DBNS) installed?

Re: Disable Redirection Not Working

It's not even making entries in the logs when I turn redirection on or off.

And to be clear. I am turning redirection on and off by going to the user (myself), click default configuration, edit user, "Redirect to BlackBerry Device: Yes/No", then Save all.

That is the correct method and the one I was using during those tests.  It seems like either the database is not getting updated or the Messaging Agent isn't seeing the update in the database.  I believe that the database is getting updated because across multiple sessions in BAS the setting remains at 'NO'.  What if you set it to 'NO' and then move the user to a static messaging agent?  You can move the user to a static agent on the same page that you set the redirection.

Re: Disable Redirection Not Working

Not sure how to do the static agent move. Also when I do the Static agent move am I looking to see if anything appears in the logs?

My mistake it is a different location, to move to a static agent follow these steps:

  1. Manage the user
  2. Click on the 'Component Information' tab
  3. Click on 'Edit user'
  4. Under 'Mail Information' set 'Turn on static mailbox agent' to 'Yes'
  5. Change the 'Mailbox agent ID' to an unused agent (200 is the default)
  6. Click 'Save all'
Once this is done, wait a couple minutes for the user to be stopped and then started on the new agent.  Then send a test message to see if it is redirected and examine the logs (it will be marked as MAGT_200 in the file name).
