Enabling BES icon in BES 5.x

I'd like to enable the BES mailbox icon on devices connected to my BES, as described in KB15003 (http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB15003&sliceId=1&docTy...)

Is this possible on BES 5.x? The KB doesn't list 5.x as an applicable version, so I'm hesitant to start tinkering with the DB.

Re: Enabling BES icon in BES 5.x

That article also applies to BES 5.0 so you are good to apply it. We have updated it, just waiting for the change to go through. Naturally, you'll want to make sure you have a backup of your database just to be safe.

Re: Enabling BES icon in BES 5.x

When this is enabled, does it automatically add the icon on the device for ALL users?  Or does it just add the ability to turn the icon on in each user's information page?  If it covers all users, is there a different way to add the icon to only specific users devices?

Thanks.

Re: Enabling BES icon in BES 5.x

It adds it for everyone. Essentially, everyone gets a new Desktop[CMIME] service book that gives them a shiny new Desktop email icon.

Re: Enabling BES icon in BES 5.x

It enables it for everyone.

What I did was roll it in to a maintenance window, and let the users know the change was coming, and how to un-do it. (Just hide the new icon on the device, if you don't want to use it.)

Re: Enabling BES icon in BES 5.x

if the end-user does not currently have an internet email account, will this change still place an extra icon on their blackberry BES device?

Re: Enabling BES icon in BES 5.x

Yes it will still enable the new icon. The new icon comes from the Desktop[CMIME] service book which comes from the BES. It is really too concerned whether or not there is a BIS account involved.

Re: Enabling BES icon in BES 5.x

Once the change is done, how does one go about changing the icon name to something more suitable for a company for all users in one shot instead of user by user as stated in KB? 'Desktop' is not intuitive.

If it can't currently be changed globally when does RIM think a fix will be out?

Re: Enabling BES icon in BES 5.x

Not able to change it currently, not sure if the development involved to make it customisable is really worth it. I agree desktop is a little confusing though.
