Unable to access BES Admin Console

Hi all,

I'm currently strugelling to access my BES admin console. When I try to open it from any computer with any browser it just tells me that the web page is unavailable. Yes, I know that there has been several posts on this subject, and yes I have read and tried them all...

First the environment details:

  • BES 5.0.3 MR 7 (Bundle 227).
  • Exchange 2010 SP2 Update Rollup 1.
  • Running on Windows Server 2008 R2 (fully patched).
  • SQL Express Installation. (No redundacy or HA configured).

I have done the following to try and get the thrice cursed system up and running:

  • Reinstalled the Application Service (in actual fact I have gone as far as reinstalling all BES services),
  • Check cluster-service.xml for unfinished tags - the file seems fine to me,
  • Changed the registry option from -Xmx1024m to -Xmx768m,

Currently there are no errors being logged in the Windows Event Viewer, all BES services start successfully, although the BAS-AS.exe service only consumes about 40 MB of memory.

BAS-AS_err.log shows:

"[Fatal Error] :-1:-1: Premature end of file.
Error encountered while starting server: Existing configuration files seem to be corrupted."

As per all the other cases mentioned, yes my BlackBerry services are still working in the sense that users are still getting their mail, I can still do directory lookups, etc, etc.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

No BBAS-AS log files are being created.

Can you zip a copy of it to me via PM? i will compare it to mine.

Mine was 13k in size if that helps.

Re: Unable to access BES Admin Console

Thanks for the reply! You seem to be REALLY active on this topic, every single post I have read have at least one response from you on the subject. My appreciation for your attention is immensurable.

Back to the subject - my cluster-service.xml file is also 13 Kb. There are no unclosed tags, etc, etc. I will PM the file as soon as I get my bloody VPN working.

There is one file in the folder (named ejb3-entity-cache-service.xml) that is 0 Kb. I don't have enough experience in JBoss and or BES to tell if this might be a problem. Any suggestions will be highly appreciated.

Re: Unable to access BES Admin Console

Thanks! Having a clean a clean install to compare it with makes all the difference. I will try removing the file, re-install MR7 and give it a go. (This will however only happen after 2200 my time (ZA) as that is my change window). I will give feedback once complete.

Thanks for all the help thus far!

Re: Unable to access BES Admin Console

Ok so yes, the file was corrupted. Replacing it with a working file has generated new errors. Admin console is still not up but it seems as if I'm slowly but surely getting closer to a working product.

If tonight's efforts proof fruitless I will do a clean reinstall over the weekend.

Re: Unable to access BES Admin Console

Ok, just some quick feedback.

At the end of the day the only thing that worked was a complete re-install of the environment. For anybody else that is struggeling with this scenario, I would recommend that you don't waste time with anything else, bite the bullet and do the re-install.

Re: Unable to access BES Admin Console

not a fun way to fix it but sometimes it has to be done.

Thanks for reporting back with your progress
