"work account" vs "Microsoft Exchange Activesync"

What is the difference in setting up an e-mail account using "work account" vs "Microsoft Exchange Activesync" ? The only thing I've figured out is that a  "work account" requires BES10 and Activesync doesn't.  If that's true, why do I need the BES 10 server?

BES 10 has more options to manage devices, push apps and more

Work drives app is awesome, saved me tons of time while not in the office

If our main requirement is to force a password on the device and have the ability to do a remote wipe, do we really need to use the BES server for that? Those options appear to be available just using ActiveSync. Am I missing something obvious?

Active Sync Pros:

• Built into Exchange. No need to purchase and install additional software to have devices sync emails, contacts, and calendars.

• iPhones and Androids are already activated this way

Active Sync Cons:

• Wipe command issued to a device will wipe everything including all applications and data

• Not as secure as using BES 10

• Can’t take advantage of BlackBerry Balance, which allows separation of work and personal applications on the Z10.

BES 10 Pros:

• Wipe can erase only work data, leaving personal data and apps in place

• Transmission of emails is more secure (encrypted)

• Can also manage iOS and Android devices to provide many of the security benefits

• Application Management allows deployment of required applications to the Z10

Re: "work account" vs "Microsoft Exchange Activesync"

So the only way to have BBClient work properly on the Andriod is with Touchdown if I'm not mistaken. So only then can the BBClient fully emulate an exchange mailbox?

Is this correct? Unless its a Motorola with built-in client or so I read.

I did test a setup using EAS and was mildly surprised that it did indeed wipe my full phone by just using the Active Sync without Touchdown and no BBClient. And I tried every which way to have BBClient and Android running and syncing without Touchdown, and spent days reading the Google Code forums to find out that certain AS functions are not supported and thats why some phones work with EAS outta the box but others do not.

Unfortunately all my Android users are freaking out that they HAVE TO BUY Touchdown to really have a separate portion in the phone so that it doesnt wipe out the whole phone during a wipe.

Can someone confirm this?

Re: "work account" vs "Microsoft Exchange Activesync"

I have one user that would not work and had to use touchdown and several others that have to remove email profile and add back in again. Maybe Android active sync isnt up to snuff. Touchdown did work fine so far in past 30 days.
