Hi,
I hope someone can confirm the follow quick question.
Will BES 10 be CAS array aware? IE: will it connect to the configured array rather than require a specific CAS server?
Many thanks

Hi Steve,
In BDS, you just configure your ActiveSync CAS URL in the mail profile. So you can either specify the CAS array URL or an individual CAS. I guess it will stay like that with BES10.
However your question is probably a bit more tricky than you think: Normally, the CAS array URL points to a load balancer. The problem is that ActiveSync traffic is normally balanced by IP. With BDS/BES10 the load balancer sees all ActiveSync requests coming from the IPs of the BDS/BES10 servers. So the problem could be that your BES10 farm is by coincidence connecting to one or just some individual CAS. The load will never be spread even.
Unfortunately there does not seem to be an alternative than to balance by IP. The only really good solution would be that BES10 allows to specify a list of CAS URLs and it would internally distribute the load session-based among the configured CAS URLs. I doubt that a functionality like that is included ...

So if I have 3 CAS servers 192.168.0.1,2,3 and a CAS array address of 192.168.0.10 I can point BES 10 server at 0.10? And this is also true for BES 5.x ?
No HLB's are in the equation.

Hi,
You should be able to use the 0.10 - however keep in mind that all the load will probably land on one CAS.

Thanks for the reply Neo3000, it is appreciated.
Microsoft are stating that BES is not CAS array aware and that it requires a dedicated server.
Apologies if you work for RIM but can anyone in the RIM technical teams confirm this either way please. It doesn't matter which ever it is, but it would be good to get formal confirmation
many thanks
