Hi there,
i did a fresh install of BESX 5.0.3 for Exchange today and let the installer set up an SQL 2005 Express instance by itself. Everything's working fine so far, but because of an SQL-related warning in the application logs (that was easy to fix) i stumbled across a little problem. The permissions/roles set for the SQL instance...
I connected to the DB instance via SQL Management studio express and can see that there are only permissions/roles set for sa and BESAdmin.
sa has the sysadmin server role but no special permissions on the BESMgmt DB
BESAdmin only has the public server role but is db_owner for BESMgmt
Where i see a problem is that only sa can change settings for the SQL instance, but that i have no idea what the password for sa is... Already asked google about it but only found that back in the days when BES(X) was still using MSDE the default sa pw was "password", nothing about the more recent versions that use SQLE 2005.
So, what's the sa password? The BESX installer didn't ask for it, so it's probably pre-set somewhere. Not that i need it now or in the near future, i'm just a bit paranoid about stuff like this and want to be prepared for the worst case ![]()
Thanks,
cha0s

try a blank or the BESAdmin password.
might be able to login as administrator to change password via command line.
