BlackBerry Professional to BlackBerry Enterprise 4.1.5 on different servers

We quickly outgrew our BlackBerry Professional 4.1.4 environment and acquired the unlock key to upgrade to full BlackBerry Enterprise server 4.1.5.  We installed the new BES software on a separate server, installed the client licenses keys, and initiated the first transfer by removing a user from the Professional server and activating them on the BES server.  When the user initiated the Enterprise Activation on the handheld they encountered the IT Policy Rejected error.  After reviewing article KB04533 we concluded that Cause 2 best fit our case: "The BlackBerry device was previously active on another BlackBerry Enterprise Server and has a conflicting IT policy".  Following the recommended corrective actions we created a backup of the handheld using the Desktop Manager, created a Blank IT Policy, and initiated a Remote Wipe Reset to Factory Defaults as described in article KB14202.

We are now able to activate the handheld into the new BlackBerry Enterprise 4.1.5 environment.  However, when I try to use the Desktop Manager to restore the backup information, it will not restore Themes, Speed Dials, Applications, or Bookmarks.  Does anyone have an answer for how to move a handheld from one BlackBerry Server environment to another and retain the personal and/or customized information on the handheld device.

Re: BlackBerry Professional to BlackBerry Enterprise 4.1.5 on different servers

Hello,

As per you scenario is concerned, kindly follow the below mentioned steps for the backup to get restored on the device.

1) Wipe the handheld, with the security wipe option available.

2) Restore on the data component from the previous backup you have taken from the device before activating on the new server (don't take any configuration settings). You can find this option in: - Backup and Restore - advanced tab.

3) Then activate the device with the new BES. For application you have to try switch device option available on the desktop manager. I guess this work with only single messaging (outlook/Lotus) profile. This is more simple and reliable option if it works.

Cheers  : )
