I've got a user who has lost his Blackberry, and already transferred his phone number to a new, replacement BB. I want to run the 'erase data and disable' command against his old device. The new Blackberry isn't yet added to our BES.
I assume the erase/disable command locates the target device via PIN, and not by phone number, but I can't find any confirmation of that.
How does the command find the target BB to be disabled?

It is done by PIN for 1 week.
If you activate the new device you will not get a confirmation

One more naive question - My user has now activated the new phone, and I hadn't yet sent the command to the old. At this point is there any way possible to send the disable command (or the lock with password cmd) to the old phone, maybe via the command-line?
Given that the phone is no longer listed in the BB Manager software I'd have to figure out the PIN, but I can probably find it in an old email somewhere, or hopefully in the BES logs somewhere.
PS: I gave you Kudos, but can't find anywhere to mark your answer as a solution.

2. If a BlackBerry smartphone user is activated with a new BlackBerry smartphone but the BlackBerry smartphone user account was not removed from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, the Erase Data and Disable Handheld command will be executed.
If I understand the above correctly, the old device was sent the 'kill' command automatically. So I think I've answered my own question.

try to solve it now.

I f not on BES or a BlackBerry Protect user, then you can knot wipe it remotely.
I hope you at least had a password on it.
