Does anyone recommend updating the Java RE on the BES when Java releases an update to fix security bugs? I questioned RIM on this a few JRE versions back (18.104.22.168) and they said that version 6 (22.214.171.124) was not supported. Well, now the JRE is up to 126.96.36.199, so we are a few versions back on our BES.
Is this a security issue with the BES running an out of date, non secure JRE client? Should we updated the JRE when they release a new version to fix security bugs?

Very true; all BES service packs contain the relevant JAVA application, (you can see this during the install on the pre-req part).
I actually leave the old version in just in case but that's just user preference.

We always recommend utilizing the version of JRE/Java that is included with the installer and is listed in the documentation. The same can be said with any of the other prerequisite software that is included.
The best rule of thumb is to follow the documentation with regards to software versions.
