I also don't get it, and I get the idea that the advise to have both cdo.dll on the same version is only applicable for Exchange 2003... And my problem is weird because some users can synchronize both ways and some only from outlook to BB.
See here the contents of the MS cdo package: Microsoft Exchange Server MAPI Client and Collaboration Data Objects 1.2.1
File Name: ExchangeMapiCdo.EXE
Date Published: 2/16/2009
Download Size: 2.4 MB
After installation on my blackberry professional server the cdo.dll is there with version 220.127.116.11.0
The Exchange 2007 SP1 server does not have cdo.dll but EXCDO.DLL version 8.1.291.1
Can somebody confirm that the cdo.dll advise to have it matching is only applicable for Exchange 2003?? Or, to say it in other words, does one have to install the mapicdo package only on the BES server or also on the Exchange 2007 servers? The KB12697 article is not too clear in this.

I have the exact same problem on my server. I will try to do what you said and install that "
Microsoft Exchange Server MAPI Client and Collaboration Data Objects 1.2.1" patch and will give some feedback tomorrow as to if it resolved the problem.
The only question I have is : It used to work fine until we had a problem with the Exchange rollup 9 patch that completly wiped our store.edb to 0 kb and had to bring the backups back to a new store. From this incident, the blackberrys phone have a one way synchronisation with calendar and contacts.

Updating Exchange will update the CDO.DLL usually. BES will need to be updated to match CDO version that Exchange has.
What version CDO.DLL is installed on BES and exchange?
Use search on Exchange to find it and dont forget to look at hidden files during your search.
