know any history of this device?

if it was on a BES before, you will have to wipe it.

then you must wipe it to remove the encryption keys.

This is by design.

User also mention that before she left the IT there deprovision her blackberry from their BES. When the user started here she also had to call her provider to get the BES data plan.

Re: Your device could not be activated. Delete your Blackberry device data and try activating again

I had this problem with an employee who has a BlackBerry. We wound up calling her cell provider, and they wound-up transferring us to RIM. RIM had her do a backup While doing the backup, we found she had an excessive amount of data. Every text message she had ever sent or received was on there, every call, etc. etc. That is why the message is saying "Delete your Blackberry device data . . . "

The device is full.

The user is going to have to eliminate old data whether he/she likes it or not. She could backup everything on the device with the Desktop Manager just to be on the safe side and then start deleting.

running BES 5 with BlackBerry balance? that would allow you to wipe corporate data only from device
