bmds hogging memory?

environement:

bes 4.1.5.24

w2k3 sp2 running on vmware

sql server (used for bes only)

30 users

1gb ram

pagefiel 1.5 to 3gb. currently 2.6gb

Problem:

server running low on memory

Symptoms

On Monday a backup failed due to low memory.

bmds.exe appears to be the culprit:

after backup failure bmds memory usage logged at 813mb & Virtual Mem Size 800mb

after recyling BlackBerry MDS Connection Service it stabilised at: 62mb and 170mb

24 hours later bmds is using 127mb physical and 179mb virtual

In under 24 hours the handles count for bmds has risen from 2000 to 2133

this does not appear to be normal behaviour and i certainly have not seen it before. There have been no recent changes to the server... afaik

I have not restarted the server yet.

any ideas?

thanks

Bren

Re: bmds hogging memory?

you should had some more ram, 1 gig is just enough to run it.

I would reboot the server and monitor it.

if really on SP5 you can apply SP7 to it and get a few more new features.

my 4.1.7 server is very stable with 100+ users

Re: bmds hogging memory?

I rebooted the server 20 hours ago but the bmds resource use is still increasing.

10 minutes after reboot it looked like this:

mem usage 61,652

virt mem 167,464

threads 1955

handles 244

now, 20 hours later it looks like

mem usage 125,024

virt mem 179,000

threads 2163

handles 245

and growing.

Whilst, Mr/ms knottyrope i do agree that some extra memory wouldn't go amiss (would it ever?) i don't think it is the solution here. More memory would just delay the seemingly inevitable (memory bottleneck) by a couple of days.

any other suggestions welcomed.

SP5 is very old. I would upgrade.
