Auto-suggest helps you quickly narrow down your search results by suggesting possible matches as you type.
It would certainly be helpful to know what model device, or "phone", you have, since no one here knows.
Nevertheless, try this: Press the Menu key > Switch Applications. You will (should) see a ribbon bar of icons of the active applications running in the background.
