Like many others, I was trying to install Link software and kept getting "Failed to install" and an error message, error 1723 in my case. Went through the outlook.com route to get data on my phone - took ages but mainly non-BB issues/my technical incompetence.
However, as Link had got as far as installing a desktop icon, I thought - wonder what happens if I click it? and hey presto, Link was loaded and completed the device transfer - it's actually quite a slick and pain-free process.
If you've got the icon on your desktop, give it a try!
Now if only they could get bedside mode to display the time all night like my 9800 did.........

Hi, I'm having this problem but in my case, Link is not installing at all. (I get the 1723 error message too).
You mentioned going in via Outlook. How does that work? I use Outlook and am hoping this may offer an answer, otherwise my new phone is useless to me. Thanks!
