Link not recognizing legacy backup files

I'm trying to restore some of my 9900 data into my new Q10 but link will not recognize the 9900 backups.

I've tried this originally on my Mac to no avail. So I transfered over the 9900 backups to a PC and the Windows Blackberry Link won't recognize it either.

Any suggestions? My 9900 is bricked, so I can't access it.

Re: Link not recognizing legacy backup files

Hey knownastron,

Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.

Thanks for the question.

BlackBerry Link is working per normal.  Previous legacy backup files will not work in BlackBerry Link.  Only BlackBerry 10 backup files will work in BlackBerry Link.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Cheers.

If you look at this link here:

http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/btsc/viewdocument.do;jsessionid=A223AEE115A8E80C7C818685FC692261?...

It clearly states you can use Blackberry Link to restore BB7 OS data onto your BB10. I'm trying to do the last option in the link.

Re: Link not recognizing legacy backup files

My apologies knownastron,

You are totally correct.  The first versions of BlackBerry Link did not have this option.

Now this is a known issue for BlackBerry Link for Mac, however it should work for the PC.  Do you have any backup files that were originally created on the PC instead of brought over from the Mac?

I look forward to your reply.

Cheers.

Re: Link not recognizing legacy backup files

No, I don't have a original backup on my PC, as the only backups I've made are from the Mac.

I seem to not even have the option for what I have bolded here in part 3: "Select Restore > Restore from backup file > Legacy Device Backup Files."

Any suggestions?

Re: Link not recognizing legacy backup files

This remains an issue 2 months later!

Mac version of BlackBerry Link does not recognise Bold 9900 .bbb backup files

Please indicate when BlackBerry is going to support Mac restore of data to BB10

Thanks

Re: Link not recognizing legacy backup files

Your comment here and the advice of my service provider are wrong - it is not possible to restore from a legacy device backup file either on PC or Mac

All advice suggests this should be possible but the file type is simply not available to restore

If there is a workaround can you post as an answer to the thread and as a sticky

I find it curious that there isn't much activity on this vital aspect of upgrading to BB10 - does that mean that some people have achieved this? Perhaps in an earlier version of BlackBerry Link (Mac or PC version)?

Thanks

Re: Link not recognizing legacy backup files

Just interested to know if you managed to restore from a legacy backup file?

My experience so far suggests that only BB10 backup files are readable by BlackBerry Link software - no other files are recognised...I think

Re: Link not recognizing legacy backup files

I haven't really tried since the time I originally posted this thread. It seems like everyone else is having a dandy time restoring BBOS files onto their BB10 phones. Just not the two of us.

Goodluck with it all.
