Z10 to Q10 Device Switch Issue

Attempting to use Blackberry Link to do a device switch from a Z10 to Q10.

Caption of Error:

No data will be transferred

No data will be transferred for the following reasons:

- The OS version of your new device is older than the OS version of the device you are switching from. Select a different device or cancel the transfer

 

Software Versions:

Q10 - Locked to Bell Mobility - 10.1.0.238 - no software update available

Z10 - Locked to Bell Mobility - 10.1.0.273 - no software update available

Link Version - 1.1.0.37 - no software update available

Unfortunately, that is a limitation of the BB10 OS's. You cannot restore a backup from a newer OS version to an older version. You can restore a backup from an older version to a same or newer version only.

You need the Q10 to be on a newer version. Your only option is to install a "leaked" OS onto the Q10 in order to be able to restore your backup or transfer data.

Here is a link to the latest OS for the Q10. All you do is download the file, it will be a .rar file so you'll need an unzip tool like 7zip to unzip it to the .exe file. Then connect the Q10 and run the .exe file and it will update the OS. It will take you longer to download the file than to install it, too. It takes about 5 minutes to load the new OS.
