The documentation says that I can set up the BES to track location every 15-60 minutes.
However, all the developers I speak to say that this features does not work.
How can you get BES 5/10 device to send a GPS position without using an app?

Thank you for your question regarding GPS location logs.
This does in fact work as it puts the data into SQL. The issue comes when you want to extract and use the data as we do not currently have an application to pull it. It can be located in the SyncLBS table.
BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 currently does not have support for location tracking.

Thank you FB. That is very helpful.
Please could you expand on your answer a bit;
1. If there is no GPS tracking in BES 10... how will it be posible to get location data from event logs? I see from the documentation that you can get current mobile carrier name and home mobile carrier... Can you also get cell-site data like MCC/MNC etc.? Seems that if you cant get location, it takes away a big selling point for app developers.
2. What data can you get from the Univeral Device Service? On BlackBerry you get device synch info (phone calls, PIN, SMS, data volumes etc). What logged device info can you get from a BES 10 connected iPhone and Android device?

Currently the BES 10 does not have device logging for SMS, MMS, etc.
There has been a Future Enhancement request to have this implemented in future releases of BES-10, for which we do not have additional information on at this time.
As for projected device information, this has always been embedded into the BlackBerry device OS, when it comes to the UDS and third party devices; the UDS is sandboxing the device to create a work perimeter for work secure information. The third party core device software features are not passed on to the UDS for display or information gathering.

I think GPS, SMS, Call logging and Data usage etc would be great on enterprise, as we have developed solutions on Android which do all this and we have been asked to develop a solution for the BB platform, as in the UK goverment bodies still have a large BB device pool, and Android devices are being adopted due to their flexibility using Andorid's Device Administration feature, which allows full log access, device tracking etc.
I think it would make business customers warm to BB, especially for asset tracking, call usage etc. But it is dissappointing that these basic feature are not included.
There is so much potential but I think BB 10 is slow to roll out, but we would love to develop on it, so please privide these great features and get them rolled out.
The new BB devices are a jump ahead and have massive potential, its just needs implemented.
