BB Pearl 8100 - Update Device Software

I have downloaded and installed the device software for BB 8110. I run Desktop Manager, but can't find anything anywhere that will update the software on the device. I followed the instructions in Help. But there is no "Update Now" option that appears for device software. I'm trying to install device software version 4.3.0.93. I'm running Desktop Manager version 4.3.0.17. My service provider is ATT.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Re: BB Pearl 8100 - Update Device Software

Device Software is not the software installed on the device; it is the software that allows a synchronisation (also of 3rd party software) between the device and the PC.

You can check the Blackberry.com website to get the latest desktop and device software.

Can you install 3rd party application via the Desktop Manager or does it give an error message?

If your question was answered, please accept it as a sollution and / or give Kudos ;-)

Re: BB Pearl 8100 - Update Device Software

Sometimes I've seen that "Update Now" screen not appear. You can check that the device software is installed by going into Desktop Manager, then going into Help | About BlackBerry Desktop Manager. Look on the Device Software tab and see if the device software is listed. If so you can go into Application Loader to update the device software.

Hello,

I don't fully understand your question, so I will assume you want to know how to update your BB OS on your device (which could include the component that you mention). The simplest way is to, on a PC (you cannot do this on MAC):

1) Uninstall, from your PC, any BB OS packages

2) Make sure you have the BB Desktop Software already installed

3) Download and install, to your PC, the BB OS package you desire:

4) Delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:

  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
  • C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML

5) Launch the Desktop Software and connect your BB...the software should offer you the OS package you installed to your PC. If, during the process, your BB presents a "507" error, simply unplug the USB cord from the BB and re-insert it...don't do anything else...this should allow the install to continue.

Don't forget to backup.

You may also need the use of these tricks:

If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:

  • KB19915How to perform a clean reload of BlackBerry smartphone application software using BlackBerry Desktop Software

Good luck and let us know!

Re: BB Pearl 8100 - Update Device Software

Hello again...apologies for the delay...I have been away.

Please re-read post 6 above, and reply with the specific steps you conduct. There are several tricks that may be necessary, but I cannot tell exactly what you have done from my instructions (not from the "Help").

Thanks and let us know!

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

From your post (especially the "screaming" bold), it is difficult to understand exactly what you have done. Taken just from your words, you have not conducted all of the steps indicated in post 6 above. Please re-conduct all of the steps in post 6 above, and post back with specific results/actions you take from each step (e.g., the exact Desktop Software version you use, the exact OS package filename you choose, etc.).

I suspect, from your post, that you've skipped something in post 6 that is required, and that is why you are not seeing what you expect...but I cannot be certain without you reporting clearly what steps you conduct and the precise results of each step. For example...you say, in your post, that you "downloaded" the OS file you desire...but you did not say that you actually installed that to your PC...both portions are required (downloading and then installing to the PC) in order for things to work correctly.

Good luck and let us know!
