Backlight issue - 8110?

Gah, another problem.

 

The screen on my (new) 8110 is on (when at the right angle to a light, you can see whats there), but I don't think there's a backlight - as amplied, you can't see anything - but the light behind the keypad is on?

 

Any help please?

If the screen is dark and keypad is lit then you might have a defective unit.
