I have recenctly purchased my blackberry and successfully tied in the bluetooth in my Volvo S80 car. I then changed a few names in my address book and instead of having 2 entries for say a mobile phone and a home phone number I've amalgamated them into a single contact with multiple numbers. I've also upgraded the software on the phone.
Now the bluetooth in the car will not recognise the address book in the format it did i.e. name and phone number. I only can see the phone numbers duplicated. No names appear. The bluetooth worked fine before I upgraded and changed the phone book. The bluetooth to my motorcycle sat nav is perfect.
Any ideas. I could accept the problem if it wasn't for the fact that when I initially connected before any changes it was fine.
Help please - Volvo are as much use as a chocolate fireguard.

Thanks for the reply.
The cars manual offers no solution for changing settings. I have now tried another Blackberry without multiple numbers for a contact in the address book and it works fine. The car obviously does not support multiple numbers.

Hi Folks
After taking delivery of a new S80, I have had the same problem with my Blackberry 8900 Curve.
After a few long nights, and a little frustration, i have managed to solve the problem, although not entirely satisfactorily.
it would appear that Blackberry (RIM, whoever) will shortly release Version 5 OS for many handsets.
I downloaded a version of this - i dont think its even beta, just a leaked copy, installed it to my 8900 and hey presto, contacts work properly on my Volvo bluetooth kit.
The only downsides (so far) are:-
Cannot download facebook anymore.
Cannot download MSN
It seems to be a little slow from a blank screen
Blackberry will not let my handset onto many of its app pages - saying i dont have the right handset.
So far thats it, i'm sure there will be other little glitches until the full release is made, but i think they're a small price to pay for having the contacts in the car.
By the way, OS 5 looks cool, the new way SMS are filed is far better, the menus look nicer and overall it seems to run a litle bit smoother.

Hi there,
I also have a Volvo S80 - 2007 model, although I am getting the new 2010 model next month. I have no problem connecting with the car's blue tooth from my Blackberry Bold 9000 but it will only show the number twice and not the names in my address book or call lists - do you have this problem?
Volvo have spent three days looking at the problem and say that it is the method that Blackberry gives out the signal with the number given twice and consequently not the names.
Any ideas?
Many thanks,
John

I have 2007 Volvo s80 which worked perfectly with blackberry 8100 pearl - multiple entries ok - no problems until last week when address book would not sync. As far as I was concerned I had made no changes, so thought I should upgrade to latest software, and then encountered the double numbers and no text problem. I reverted to downlevel and address book would not sync. Having really scratched my head about what had changed, I figured out I had been categorising my address book. So upgraded again to latest level - but took ALL categories out of address book and hey presto - address sync works perfectly again! I have not tried adding categories again, but its not something I use much so will do without them.

Did you get your new Volvo? Because i got my BB Bold 9700 yesterday and the BT carkitt drops the connection after 17 sec. Very strange!
Is this a BB problem or Volvo?

Hi, I have a Volvo S40 and the first Blackberry I connected via Bluetooth was a Curve 8310 OS 4.2. No problem. It worked fine all the time.
Then I changed to Storm 9500 OS 4.7 and the problem appeared. It connected right, but in the audio system never showed the name, only the phone number twice.
Recently I changed my device to Curve 8900 OS 4.6 because of the difficulty to write on the screen keyboard and hoping I could see the names again. NO! Again the same problem.
I tried many ways to find out the problem and the possible solution to sync correctly, I tried categories, turn on, turn off, sync all contacts... and nothing worked.
Finally, I don't know how, in the 8900 Bluetooth Options of the device "My Car", I marked in Services the Headset option. I synced form the car and the names appeared!!!
But when I connected again and the phone synced automatically with the car, again, lost the names.
So, I cleared the mark on Headset option, synced and the names appeared again.
Next step, I cleared the option "sync auto when connect" in the Bluetooth options of the audio system and the phonebook remains OK.
The only concern is that with this method, you have to sync manually the Blackberry with the car every certain time, turning off or on the Headset Option in the 8900, but it works while RIM corrects what I think is a problem since release 4.5.
