Yes, you're right. Asking for a replacement is a right step.

Re: Can't get Pearl to recognize .mp3 files

I had the same problem when I took my memory card from my other smart phone (HTC)  to this one.  I put the music and pictures on my card by using my card reader on my computer.  This created other folders on the card that Blackberry doesn't look at when searching for your music and pics.  When you inserted your card in your Blackberry it should have made a Blackberry folder.  It has subfolders like music, pics and ringtones.  If you put your files in the Blackberry folder it will find them just fine.  Hope this helps you out.

Re: Can't get Pearl to recognize .mp3 files

Thanks caretaker for the reply.

I have only the 'Blackberry' folder, with all the correct subfolders.  All my music is in the music folder.

I am taking my Pearl back today to swap for a new one... we'll see if it has the same problem.  My wife and I got ours on the same day - hers works, mine doesn't, and as far as I can remember we haven't done anything different.

We'll try a new one.

Re: Can't get Pearl to recognize .mp3 files

So, I have a warranty replacement coming, but in the meantime, I tried one little thing - I unplugged the battery for a minute.  When it rebooted, the phantom list was gone, and I can add new songs.  I added/deleted songs several times just to make sure, and it worked great.

Then, I added about 25 podcasts in one go, and only 5 of the podcasts showed up on the list (they were all on the media card though).  Another try at unplugging the battery... and 'presto', now they're all on the list and play just fine.

So, it seems that a reboot is/was in order for this.

Thanks for all your help, and you can file this one under 'strange but true'.

Re: Can't get Pearl to recognize .mp3 files

I have part of his issue. I have just over 3 gig of songs on my 8 gig card but my blackberry can not always see them. Sometimes they are availalbe, sometimes not. I take out my battery and replace it and some of the songs show up so I do it again and again. Sometimes I have to take the battery out 3-4 times before I can listen to all my music. It is rediculous. is there any patch or upgrade available for this problem? I almost tossed it out the window on my way home yesterday, it is very frustrating.

Re: Can't get Pearl to recognize .mp3 files

May be there is something wrong with the audio files. May be they are not in the correct format, there could be a codec problem too.
