Does anyone know if there is a charging pod available for the 9100? Or if the 8100 charging pod is compatible with the 9100?

RIM always makes sure that a charging pod is compatible with one series only. So the 8100 charging pod is compatible with 8100, 8110, 8120 and 8130 and no other.
That being said, I have not yet seen any 9100 charging pod, even on the official store :

i'd like one of these too !
I looked at the charging "pads" that are available, but they dont have the replacement battery covers needed for the back of the 9100/9105 yet for them to work easily with the charging pads

when you say that, you imply that the charging pod always connect to the battery cover. Which is false.
On devices like the Curve 8300, 8900, Pearl 8100, Storm and Storm 2, the charging is done by some metal parts that are below the battery cover.
On Bold and Bold 2, the charging is done by some metal parts that are located at both bottom corners.
that being said, I am not even sure the Pearl 3G has the metal parts required for charging without using its micro-USB port.

Judging from the design of the 9100 Pearl, I doubt there ever will be one. I do not see the connectors necessary for a charging pod.

correct, i looked into this a little more while i was in the USA, and without someway of connecting the replacement cover to the internals it's not likely to be viable, that said they could do a slim ribon like connector that could slide between the battery and it's own connector,
i guess we'll have to wait and see, if they have redesigned and basically made this charging pad usless for these newer builds, it smacks of sour grapes, because it was not them that thought of it.
charging via plug in cable, is now pre-historic and i have no idea what they are thinking of not giving some other option, piss poor market research basically, as none of us want to piss around plugging it in, we want a pod or pad type charger, especially when the plug in cable type thing is so dam fragile

onveniently position your handheld for speakerphone calls, watching movies, or listening to music - while winding a charger behind the Charging Pod to re-power and/or a data cable to your handheld's USB port for syncing. The charger includes two LED 2-colour indicators - through the BlackBerry logo on the front of the Pod and on its interior...

I now have the 9100. There is no metal parts, just like the Curve 8520. No charger will be available unless a third party company sells a special battery door and its pod.
