What is the difference in these on a BlackBerry pearl? Also is there a shortcut to either one? And can you record phone calls using one of them?

Hi Coz and welcome to the forums
The voice recorder is used to produce voice note files.

Here are the list of keyboard shortcuts for your device:
Keyboard shortcuts for the BlackBerry Pearl 9100 smartphone
The voice notes recorder will not function as long as phone app is running.
Thanks,

Thank you.
How do you set it so that the voice notes are stored on the memory card?
By shortcuts, I meant can you assign a certain key with a certain thing, eg can you have one of the number keys as a shortcut to the voice recorder? Or can you only use the convenience keys on each side?
Also, some of the shortcuts on that list don't work on my phone eg:
To lock the keyboard, press and hold the asterisk (*) key. To unlock the keyboard, press and hold the asterisk (*) key and press the Send key.
I can only unlock the keypad by pressing the mute button on the top.
And:
To turn on the speakerphone during a call, press the period (.) key. To turn off the speakerphone during a call, press the period (.) key again.
That doesn't work either. The period button is the number 1 key, right?
