Initialisation Failed?

I have just updated the OS on my Pearl 9105 after I received an email from Blackberry but after the phone restarted it no longer recognises the SIM card.

I have tried the 'hard reset' technique but still with no joy.  The phone and SIM card were working fine 30 minutes ago!!

I am in the UK and my network provider is Orange.

The software update was v6.0.0.668, platform 6.6.0.236

Thanks

Re: Initialisation Failed?

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

It may be that something during the update did not go well. Therefore, I recommend you perform a clean OS reload to see if that cures it.

At the top of each device forum, there should be some "sticky" threads that discuss the OS levels available for each model. Please use those as reference as you proceed.

From a PC, you can install any compatible (e.g., for your exact BB Model Number) OS package to a BB via this procedure:

Note that while written for "reload" and the Storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload any BB device model -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC. You can even use a different carriers OS package by simply inserting, between steps 1 and 2, the deletion, on your PC, of a file named VENDOR.XML. Be sure that you remove, from your PC, any other BB device OS packages as having more than one installed to the PC can cause conflicts with this procedure.

If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:

Good luck and let us know!

Re: Initialisation Failed?

Thanks for the reply.

I did try downgrading the OS to various previous versions but still with no joy.  I tried the SIM card in other phones and it still showed the same problem 'initialisation failed' which led me to believe that the SIM card had become corrupted.

The only solution was to get a new SIM card and update my network provider with the new SIM number.  This resolved my problem but only after buying 2 PAYG SIM cards (£1 each) and then being told that I required a PAYM SIM card (£15). I didn't fancy waiting for Orange to send one out in the post which could have been 3-4 days.

Overall, the phone works fine now and the OS has also been updated to v6.  Next time I update the phone I will deffinately have a spare PAYM SIM card to hand.

Cheers
