Hello,
I Got my phone junst under a week ago - BlackBerry Pearl 9100 3G
Its awesome ![]()
I hadent had the chance to sync it with my pc yet. but i manualy added all the contacts from my old phone, then synced it to my e-mail (Gmail and yahoo)
Last night i updated BlackBerry App World, and all my contacts on my phone and e-mail have disapeared ![]()
I have been looking for fixes, but they all say go check ur pc for a backup file, i never synced to my pc before today.. does blackberry back up the file on the phone atleast when it updates? or did i just loose all my e-mail and phone contacts forever? cuz thats messed up if thats the case.
thank you

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
I'm a little confused about your post...I'm not quite sure exactly what you did to cause this. An update to AppWorld would be, frankly, very very unlikely to cause this.
An update to the device OS could cause this, but there also would have been a point in the process where you would have been offered the chance to take a backup. If you took that, then a file was created on your PC. Search your entire hard drive for a file with IPD extension (*.IPD). Inspect the results -- any file with a date/time of around when you did this would likely contain your data, and you could use this KB to restore it.
Good luck!

let me try to re-explain something. before today and before the incedent my Blackberry phone and my PC were never paired. never synced at all. I haden't done that yet.
I synced my yahoo account to my contact list, and all was ok.
Then last night, I was prompted to update. It could have been an OS update, but I thought I read App World somewhere. In any case, I was not home. It only asked me if I wanted to update. I said yes.
Then I went to bed. The next morning, I opened my contact list and there were no contacts. I opened my e-mail on my pc, and I didnt have any contacts on my yahoo account.
I checked for answers online, and found out that if I update, this could hapen. My question is, is there a backup on the device? or did my Blackberry delete all my work and personal e-mails along with my phone contact list? and there is no way to get them back because i didn't sync it to my pc before hand.
Thank you for your help

Ohhhhh...yessss...you did an OTA OS update...very dangerous.
The OTA update process indeed creates an on-device backup from which it restores at the completion. But, unlike a tethered update, that backup file is not usable ever again, even if the restore step fails...as it did in your case. So, sadly, all is lost. This is the precise reason we never recommend doing OTA updates...too dangerous.
Good luck.

But The message came from Blackberry, I am not sure i DID and OS update... I thought i did a 'World App' Update, thats what i thought i read.
I was just aksing in case i did do an OS update.
So let me get this straight, you do not recomment it, but you sent it straight to a users phone asking them to update? that doesnt make any sence...
ok, here is the info on my BlackBerry
v5.0.0.604 (bundle 1017, Platform 6.2.0.36)
is that the latest version? if it is, then i probably did an update. if not, then there is an other problem, whatever i was prompted to uptade by Blackberry to update, was what killed all my yahoo contacts.

"I" didn't do anything...I don't work for RIM. These forums are user-to-user...these forums are not part of your formal support channel.

my bad, sorry.
still, blackberry deleted all my yahoo contacts!
if it did it to my phone contacts alone, i'd say, ok, thats fine...
but my yahoo! i thought i was synking one way, adding my e-mails to my phonebook... but being able to delete my contats from my phone book is not what i signed up for.
anyway, its not the end of the world, thx for ur help
i'll figure it out

Try the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB):
1) Register HRT
2) Resend Service Books
3) Batt Pull Reboot
Hopefully that will get things going again for you!
